The MBBS Programme

The NUMed MBBS is a 5-year integrated medical programme identical to that offered at Newcastle UK. The curriculum follows the Newcastle medical school model, emphasising problem-based learning, early clinical exposure, and research-based study.

Programme Structure

• Phase 1 (Years 1–2): Biomedical Sciences foundation at NUMed Malaysia
• Phase 2 (Year 3): Clinical sciences – may be taken at NUMed or Newcastle UK
• Phase 3 (Years 4–5): Clinical placements at Malaysian and UK hospitals

Degree Awarded

Graduates receive the Newcastle University MBBS (UK), conferred in Newcastle, England. The degree is recognised by:

• Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) — full recognition
• UK General Medical Council (GMC) — eligible for Foundation Programme
• Medical councils in Singapore, Australia, UAE, Ireland, and many others

Clinical Training

NUMed students complete clinical placements at premier hospitals across Johor including Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail, KPJ Johor Specialist Hospital, and during the UK phase at Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.

EduCity Campus

• Purpose-built medical school in EduCity, Iskandar Puteri
• Clinical skills lab with high-fidelity simulation mannequins
• Anatomy dissection suite
• On-campus accommodation (residential colleges)
• Shuttle to Johor Bahru city and to Singapore (Causeway)

Admission Requirements

• A-Levels: AAA (Biology + Chemistry + Physics or Mathematics)
• Or: AUSMAT, SAM, Foundation in Science with distinction grades
• English: IELTS 7.0 (no band below 6.5) or TOEFL iBT 100
• Competitive selection: interview, UCAT (UK Clinical Aptitude Test) required
• Approximately 160 places per year
